On the job
The job
VKBA 7408 replaces a worn front wheel bearing on the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It is a cartridge bearing that is pressed into place, so plan for a press and the right adapters before the job starts. The magnetic ABS encoder sits in the seal: fit it the right way round and keep magnetic tools and metal swarf away from it.
In the box and alongside
The kit comes with a circlip, a service booklet and a split pin, so no used fasteners go back on. SKF recommends its special tool VKN 604 for the job. SKF lists two per axle, and with the wheel off it is the moment to check the brake discs, pads, the CV joint boot and the other side's bearing.
