On the job
The job
VKBA 7220 replaces a worn front wheel bearing on the Mercedes C-Class W205. It is a complete hub unit with the flange built in, pre-set and sealed at the factory, so there is no end-play to adjust and it bolts straight on. The magnetic ABS encoder sits in the seal: fit it the right way round and keep magnetic tools and metal swarf away from it.
In the box and alongside
The kit comes with four screws, so no used fasteners go back on. SKF recommends its special tool VKN 604 for the job. SKF lists two per axle, and with the wheel off it is the moment to check the brake discs, pads, the CV joint boot and the other side's bearing.
