The job
SACHS 350 458 replaces a worn rear shock absorber on the BMW 3 Series G20 320d saloon. It suits the saloon on standard suspension without adaptive damping, rear- or four-wheel drive; ZF does not list it for the Touring. Mounting is bottom eye, top pin, as on the original, so it goes straight in without changes.
Alongside it
Change dampers in pairs on the same axle so the car stays balanced under braking and in bends. With the old unit out, check the bump stops, dust covers and mounting bushes and replace any that are split or flattened; a new damper on a worn bump stop soon gets damaged again.
