The job

SACHS 318 202 replaces a worn rear shock absorber on the VW Golf VII and VIII, Passat B8, Tiguan II and Skoda Octavia III. It suits the four-link rear axle and runs across most non-DCC versions; ZF names 560 816 as the successor number, so expect the box to change over time. Mounting is bottom eye, top pin, as on the original, so it goes straight in without changes.

Alongside it

Change dampers in pairs on the same axle so the car stays balanced under braking and in bends. With the old unit out, check the bump stops, dust covers and mounting bushes and replace any that are split or flattened; a new damper on a worn bump stop soon gets damaged again.
