The job
On the larger MQB cars the lower arm and the ball joint are separate parts. This left-hand arm comes with its bushes fitted but without the joint, which suits the common case where the bushes have gone and the joint is still tight. It is a frequent fix for clonks over speed bumps on Passat B8 and Tiguan II.
Alongside it
Inspect the ball joint before refitting it and order a new one if it has play or a split boot. Replace the right-hand arm, 170514, at the same visit for even handling, and look at the drop links and track-rod ends while you are there.
