The job
SACHS 319 984 replaces a worn rear shock absorber on the Toyota Corolla E21 hybrid and the front-wheel-drive RAV4 V hybrid. The same part serves both cars, which keeps shelf space down for a workshop that sees a lot of Toyota hybrids. Mounting is bottom eye, top pin, as on the original, so it goes straight in without changes.
Alongside it
Change dampers in pairs on the same axle so the car stays balanced under braking and in bends. With the old unit out, check the bump stops, dust covers and mounting bushes and replace any that are split or flattened; a new damper on a worn bump stop soon gets damaged again.
