The job
SACHS 350 588 replaces a worn rear shock absorber on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 907 316 CDI. It has an eye at each end and covers the rear-wheel-drive 3.5 t van on standard, heavy-duty or comfort suspension without air springs. Mounting is top eye, bottom eye, as on the original, so it goes straight in without changes.
Alongside it
Change dampers in pairs on the same axle so the car stays balanced under braking and in bends. With the old unit out, check the bump stops, dust covers and mounting bushes and replace any that are split or flattened; a new damper on a worn bump stop soon gets damaged again.
