On the job
The job
VKML 88009 is the kit for a stretched timing chain on the OM651 diesel in the Mercedes C-Class W205 and Mercedes Sprinter. A worn chain shows up as a rattle on cold start, cam and crank correlation faults, or a timing that has drifted on the scan tool. Replacing the chain on its own rarely lasts, which is why SKF sells it as a kit.
Doing it once
SKF gives no content list for this kit, so compare it with the parts on the engine before the job starts. Budget time for the timing cover, fresh oil and filter, and the gaskets the repair manual marks as single-use, and consider the water pump while the front of the engine is open.
